Am so happy to review this book cause it has been one of the best books i have read this year from a twenty something blogger friend whom i was lucky to meet during one of the Bangalore Blogger’s Meet. Reema Dsouza am sure most of my blogger friends know her too.
About the Book: There is so much that happens in our twenties.Graduation, first job, first salary, staying away from home, dating, being broke, being bored with the job that you worked so hard to get, and relatives and neighbors sneakily trying to find a suitable bride/groom for you when you’ve no idea about what you want to do next in your life. You are a mess. You thought you’d have everything sorted; you had those dreams in your eyes when you graduated. But when you look at it you’ve nothing sorted, you don’t know which way to turn and you constantly ask yourself “What am I doing?” Those dreams that you once wanted to turn into reality are still dreams. But then you have those moments of pure bliss! Buying something for your parents with your hard earned money, being appreciated at work, excelling in a skill you never thought you had, realizing that you have friends who are real gems and are always there for you, and maybe finding the love of your life. Twenties may be a mess, but then when you look back they are a beautiful mess! Alana is a twenty something too and there is a lot happening in her life. Read more about her journey in the book.
About the Author:
Reema D’souza is a twenty something. She is an engineer by the day and when the sun sets to make way for the night, she put on her thinking cap and her fingers itch to hit the keyboard and write.
When she is not writing, she likes to read. That is not all. Music gives her a high and she loves to sing and play the keyboard. She also loves sports. A dreamer that she is, she dreams of travelling the world and being a best selling author. And yeah, she never says no to chocolates and ice creams!
Oh and you should check out her social media profiles where she shares song covers and poems. Currently she is doing the 100 days poetry challenge on Instagram. Click here if you have a love for poems. 🙂
My take on the Book: Love.Love.Love the whole book. Honestly during the #AtoZChallenge i would look forward to read the stories that Reema would be posting each day cause they were so interesting and felt up close and personal. Since i just turned 30 few days ago this was the perfect time living my twenties all over again both during the challenge and thereafter in an Ebook. What was interesting is each of the book chapters are titles of songs, don’t believe me you have another reason to read now. And during the challenge Reema would end the post with the song video and it was really engaging for the readers.
Another lovely part about the book was it was written in first person under the name of Alana and her struggles as a twenty something. All the aspects of life from finance, career, family, friends, exes everything was covered beautifully. You could feel that you know Alana personally while go through each of the chapters in the book. My favorite chapter would be Letter to the Future Husband, Friday Love and Exes and Oh’s. Reema managed to cover all aspects of a twenty something through these different chapters.
Am also amazed that she managed all the titles based on songs which shows how much of hard work and thought process was put behind this beautiful book – Life and Times of a Twenty Something. Overall a good and light read over the weekend even if you are not a twenty something 🙂
Personally, I would be glad to see Reema expand this book more in terms of coming up with YouTube videos showing these twenty something struggle. I mean these days we see so many videos on YouTube depicting realities like hostel life, roommate stories etc . I think this could be a hit too.
